Fulham v Chelsea preview
Chelsea are enduring a similar campaign to the one in which they suffered last season, splashing hundreds of million pounds on new signings but not being able to get enough out of them, with injuries hitting the team hard this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have only managed to win one of their six league games this season ahead of their West London Derby on Monday night, and haven’t scored in their last three in the league.
The tough start to the season leaves the Blues down in 15th place ahead of Monday night’s kick off, sitting just two points above the relegation zone.
The side from the capital did manage to find a win in their last match though as they booked their place in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a 1-0 win at home against Brighton, their first win in four matches.
Pochettino and co will be desperate to carry some momentum from that win into their league form with the side having lost three of their last five matches in the Premier League.
West London rivals Fulham have had a steady start to the new campaign, without suffering too much from the departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic in the summer, who led their goal scoring charts in four of their last five seasons, including 57 goals in their last two.
Marco Silva’s side head into their derby having lost just one of their last six matches, and start tonight’s match in 12th place in the league but with the knowledge that a win will push them ninth place.
The Cottagers have won three of their last five matches in all competitions, two of which have come in the Carabao Cup and included the big scalp of knocking out a Tottenham side currently second in the Premier League table.
Last season Fulham ended a 21-match winless run against Chelsea by triumphing 2-1 in this fixture last season, and also managed a draw at Stamford Bridge later in the season.
Pochettino is unbeaten against Silva in the five matches they’ve faced each other previously, though three of those meetings have ended in draws, however, the Argentinian has won all five of the games he’s managed against Fulham in his career.
Fulham v Chelsea betting tips
bet365 have boosted a handful of their odds ahead of tonight’s West London Derby, which includes those for Chelsea to win the match 2-1, which is now available at 9/1.
Fulham playmaker and attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira has also had his odds boosted for scoring a goal from outside the penalty area to 11/1, while getting both the Brazilian and Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling each to either score or assist is now 6/1.
