Footage shows Brighton players getting last laugh over abusive Marseille fans by dugout

Brighton players were seen getting the last laugh on a group of abusive Marseille fans during Thursday’s Europa League clash.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side came from behind to claim a precious 2-2 draw at the Stade Velodrome thanks to Joao Pedro’s late penalty.

Two goals in as many minutes from Chancel Mbemba and Jordan Veretout fired the Ligue 1 side into a commanding lead.

But Pascal Gross started the comeback with his effort shortly after half time before Joao Pedro kept his cool from the spot with two-minutes remaining.

Fan video has emerged from a section of the Marseille support located behind the Brighton dugout, showing the moments before and after Pedro’s leveller.

Brighton players were subjected to a tirade of unsavory verbal abuse but that wasn’t going to stop Solly March and Carlos Baleba giving it back to the fans.

Marseille are famed for their vibrant but vociferous support but a carefree March was in no mood to pass up the opportunity to get one over on the home support.

After Pedro dispatched the visitors’ equaliser, Brighton’s bench joyously rose to their feet in celebration with some running towards the playing surface.

However, March stayed put, preferring to soak up the moment with the home support by turning to them, clenching his fists and throwing his arms in the air.

The insults continued to rain down on March and his teammates prompting substitute Baleba to put his finger to his mouth, shushing the home support.

The remainder of the game thankfully passed without incident as Brighton picked up their first ever point in European football.

The dramatic comeback kept alive their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds of the competition.

The Seagulls were already on the backfoot having lost their opening group game to AEK Athens but their point in France has kept them in touch ahead of a double header against Ajax after the international break.

Brighton return to domestic duties this weekend as Liverpool visit the AMEX Stadium before a trip to champions Manchester City in two weeks time.
