Following consultation with both teams and local police, the match at the King Baudouin Stadium was called off at 1-1.

Sweden captain Lindelof featured in the first half, with his wife calling for him to come home on social media following the terrifying events in the Belgian capital.

In a post on her Instagram story on Tuesday, she said: “There are no words.

“My thoughts go out to all those affected yesterday. To the victims and their families. To all Swedish fans. To Sweden.”

Maja then accompanied a picture of Victor with an emotional caption that read: “And I just want you home now.”

Lindelof himself, who does not want the match to be finished, also took to Instagram to pay tribute to the victims of the terror attack.

He remarked: “I’m shocked and devastated by the terrible incidents in Brussels with the cold-hearted attacks on our fellow Swedes.

“I’m lost for words for the cruelty and inhumanity, I want to send my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those affected.

“At the same time, my thoughts go out to all the supporters in Belgium last night, no one should ever go to a game of football and feel unsafe when supporting their team.”

Belgium’s National Crisis Centre announced shortly before 11pm on Monday that the stadium was evacuated.

Fans who were kept inside the King Baudouin Stadium for more than two hours after the attack were advised to go home immediately.

A man, who identified himself as a member of the Islamic State and said he was a fighter for Allah, claimed responsibility in a video posted online.

It’s been reported that police shot dead the suspect on Tuesday morning in a cafe.
