Erik ten Hag’s men were originally due to arrive at Bramall Lane on the Sunday after the October international fixtures.

But United’s trip to Sheffield has been brought forward a day and will now occur at 8pm this Saturday. Here’s why…

Why is Sheffield United vs Manchester United at 8pm?

This game was rescheduled due to United’s Champions League commitments.

United were set to make up one half of Sky Sport’s Super Sunday offering when the broadcaster made their TV picks in August.

But in September the Champions League fixtures were announced and United were confirmed to host FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford on Tuesday, October 24.

Premier League teams cannot play on Sunday and then the following Tuesday in Europe so this match had to be rescheduled.

Sky Sports still holds the rights to broadcast the fixture and 8pm was the only available slot to squeeze United in.

TNT Sports occupies the 12:30pm Saturday kick-off slot, with the bulk of the afternoon restricted by the 3pm blackout rule.

Sky had already committed to screening Chelsea’s clash against Arsenal in their regular 5:30pm offering, which left 8pm the only available time for United to feature on TV.

It will be the second time this season that the Red Devils play in the late Saturday night slot, having beaten Burnley 1-0 last month.
