Jadon Sancho still in exile at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag press conference sparks confusion

Jadon Sancho remains in exile at Manchester United despite Erik ten Hag appearing to initially confirm his return.

Ten Hag was speaking to the press ahead of United’s match against Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

There he revealed that Sergio Reguilon was closing in on a return to selection after the Spaniard suffered an injury last month.

However, it sounded like Ten Hag said Sancho, who has been left out at United after a dispute with the manager.

Social media was flooded with comments from people who had misheard what the Red Devils boss said.

“Sergio, he got ill for Saturday so he was fit. He trained all week last week and yesterday [Sunday] he was back in part training,” is what Ten Hag actually said.

“Today he will train and then we have to assess if he is ready and game fit or if he can be involved in the squad. We have to wait for that.”

The club itself reportedly confirmed at the end of Ten Hag’s press conference that the manager was referring to Reguilon and not Sancho.

The winger has been missing from the squad after hitting out at his manager after being left out of the team to face Arsenal last month.

Sancho effectively called Ten Hag a liar after the Dutchman insisted he had not trained well enough to be involved.

It has led to the United boss demanding an apology from the 23-year-old, which has yet to arrive.

At the moment, it looks increasingly unlikely that Sancho will still be a United player by the end of January with an exit now on the cards.

Ten Hag appeared to want to move on quickly when asked about the Englishman in his last press conference on Friday.

He said when asked about his situation: “Everything has been said about him.”

Reguilon, meanwhile, was brought in to provide cover at left-back for the injured Luke Shaw.

However, the full-back himself has been sidelined for nearly a month after making the move on loan from Tottenham in the summer.
