Celtic v Atletico Madrid preview

Celtic head into their home game with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night looking for their first points of the campaign having fallen to defeats against Feyenoord and Lazio in their opening two games.

Brendan Rodgers’ side took the lead in their home game against the Italian side before conceding a 95th minute winner which leaves them routed to the bottom of Group E.

Domestically, the Bhoys are enjoying a much more successful season, leading the Scottish Premiership by seven points ahead of their Old Firm rivals Rangers, as the Parkhead side look to win 12th league title in 13 years.

The Glasgow side have dropped just two points in the league all season from their nine matches, including winning their last six.

They take on an Atletico Madrid who endured a slow start to the season but have since win six matches on the spin ahead of their visit to Glasgow.

Diego Simeone’s side have climbed up to fourth in La Liga, where they trail league leaders and arch rivals Real Madrid by three points having also played a game fewer.

Los Colchoneros have earned four points from their opening two Champions League matches this season, only dropping points from conceding a 95th minute equaliser to Lazio in Rome on the opening day before securing a hard-fought 3-2 win over Feyenoord last time out.

These two teams last met in the group stage of the Europa League back in 2011, in which Atletico Madrid won both fixtures en route to lifting the trophy for the second time.

Celtic v Atletico Madrid betting tips

The Spaniards are expected to win this fixture and Paddy Power customers can get 17/2 odds on a 2-0 victory.

For those reckoning Celtic can get something out of the game, a 1-1 draw is priced at 11/2, while a 2-1 win for the Scots is available at the same odds.
