Neither Fernandez or Mudryk did not even make the matchday squad, with fans concerned about yet more injuries for the Blues.

However, their minds will be put at rest as Pochettino insisted that neither of their absences are major concerns.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website before the match, he said: “We hoped they would be okay to be in the squad, but unfortunately, they aren’t quite ready.

“Neither of them are big issues, but we didn’t want to take any risks.”

He also told TNT Sports: “We are going to miss both of them as they are very good players, but we have a very big squad to cope with that.”

Fernandez also announced the arrival of a baby boy with wife Valentina Cervantes on Friday evening.

The Argentine had started in all 27 Premier League matches since he joined before the visit of Brentford on Saturday.

He has also played the full 90 minutes in seven of their opening nine league fixtures this season, proving how key he is to the side.

Mudryk has scored two goals during his last three appearances for the club, including the 2-2 draw against Arsenal last weekend.

He also netted on international duty with Ukraine but his good form will have to pause whilst he recovers.

Pochettino will be hoping his two absentees won’t be key misses as they eye their fourth league win of the season.
