Karim Benzema could be the next European star trying to end his stay in Saudi Arabia prematurely.

The French striker is considering leaving Al-Ittihad after just six months because he isn’t happy with how his debut season in Saudi Arabia has unfolded, according to ESPN’s Julien Laurens.

Benzema’s reportedly exploring his options, but Al-Ittihad are reluctant to let him go with over two years remaining on his contract.

The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner hasn’t enjoyed the same success he had in Europe, scoring just nine goals in 15 league games. Al-Ittihad have also struggled since signing Benzema to a lucrative deal and sit 25 points back of SPL leaders Al-Hilal.

While Al-Ittihad could make a departure difficult for Benzema, the veteran should be encouraged by news about Jordan Henderson‘s impending exit from SPL rivals Al-Ettifaq.

The former Liverpool midfielder is reportedly close to joining Dutch club Ajax after successfully negotiating his exit just six months into his contract. However, Henderson is understood to be at risk of forfeiting six months of deferred wages, worth around £350,000 per week, for deciding to cancel his contract at Al-Ettifaq.

If Al-Ittihad relent and let Benzema leave, then a move to the Premier League could be a possibility for the 36-year-old, Laurens adds. Chelsea have previously shown an interest in bringing Benzema to Stamford Bridge.

However, a return to Real Madrid, where he starred for over a decade, isn’t believed to be an option for Benzema.
